Tips for Planning a Memorial

Remember, you’re not alone during the memorial planning process, our expertise will guide you along the way; however, there are several things that you need to know.

Names, Dates of Birth, Dates of Passing

This one seems obvious, but you’d be surprised how often spelling and dates are forgotten.  Be prepared and write this information down as you would like for it to read on the gravestone. Keeping a copy of the obituary is also helpful.

What Things Define the Individual(s) Being Remembered?

If you want to plan a personalized story in stone, then what are the elements that define your loved one?  It could be a hobby, career, personality, heritage, religious affiliation or any number of other elements. How would they want to be remembered?

Pictures, Verses, and Additional Items

Would you like a picture added to the gravestone?  If so, make sure you bring the best quality photograph (or a number of photographs if you’re unsure of the clarity) with you.  We can also add vases and verses to almost any design. Consider any additional functionality you may want and discuss your options with one of our memorial counselors.

Cemetery Rules and Regulations

While we keep a record of the rules and regulations for the majority of cemeteries in our region, its advantageous that you know the guidelines before ever purchasing a cemetery lot.  It’s not uncommon that we meet with families wanting a specific type of gravestone that the cemetery will not allow. If you’re unsure what type of memorial is appropriate for your lot, then we’d be glad to acquire this information for you.

Cemetery Conditions

We work in a lot of rural cemeteries, some that can be very difficult to access.  It’s never a bad idea to take pictures of the grave space and surrounding cemetery.  Remember, we not only have to find the cemetery but need to know exactly where the grave is located.  What directions and pictures can you provide us to assure that no issues arise when our setting crew goes to install the gravestone?
